I am interested in creating art at the intersection of painting, drawing and photography. I use the camera to compose minimalist images that evoke an emotion, often emphasizing a single element, and enjoy photographing in hazy or foggy atmospheric conditions. I am influenced by the principles of Asian landscape painting; creating depth with layers and mist, tonality, and the use of negative or empty space to balance the subject. I also enjoy creating a unique and expressive print. To do this I use a variety of papers, and am especially drawn to handmade Japanese washi. I match each image to a particular paper, taking into account its texture, thickness, and reflective characteristics.
