Making Things Happen: Turning an Idea into a Reality

Ever since she founded the Webby Awards, her artwork and films explore ideas in feminism, philosophy, technology, neuroscience, and nature.

Her work has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Sundance Film Festival, and her recent exhibition Ancient Wisdom for a Future Ecology: Trees, Time & Technology with Getty's PST ART in LA is traveling to the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art's new location in SF in the coming year. Her book "24/6: Giving up Screens One Day a Week to Get More Time, Creativity, and Connection", published by Simon & Schuster's Gallery Books in 2019, was a national bestseller and won the Marshall McLuhan Outstanding Book Award.

Her awards and distinctions include selection by the Albert Einstein Foundation for their Genius 100 list, the Neil Postman Award for Career Achievement in Intellectual Activity, and inclusion in NPR’s list of best commencement speeches. Shlain is known for her dynamic cinematic talk experiences and speaks internationally. She is represented by the Nancy Hoffman Gallery in New York.

​Cindy has owned and operated two art galleries: Revision Space in Pittsburgh and Cindy Lisica Gallery in Houston, so she can speak about the art world from multiple perspectives.

​Lisica currently serves as Professor of Art History and Museum Studies at Savannah College of Art and Design. She has worked in museums around the world, including Tate Modern, Tate Britain, The Andy Warhol Museum, The Menil Collection, and LA MoCA, among others.

​Dr. Lisica holds a PhD in History and Theory of Art from the University of the Arts London, MA in Modern and Contemporary Art from California State University-Long Beach, and BA in Integrative Art from The Pennsylvania State University.

In addition to Denver’s 1% percent program, Chavez oversees a graffiti prevention and youth development program called the Urban Arts Fund (UAF). Through the UAF, more than 150 new murals have been created in perpetually vandalized areas throughout the City & County of Denver.

Born and raised in Peru, Muñoz-Nájar holds a Ph.D. in the History of Art from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.A. from the Institute of Fine Arts. Before joining the Foundation, Verónica was a curatorial intern in the Latin American Art Department of the Los Angeles County Art Museum and the Museo de Arte de Lima. In 2019, she was the inaugural recipient of the Marilynn Thoma Predoctoral Fellowship, where she conducted research at a diverse range of archives, museums, and private collections in Bolivia, Peru, Italy, and Spain.

Tech Diplomacy and Why it Should Matter to Artist Communities

Join us at 5:00 PM PST - 7:00 PM CST for a conversation about the intersection of art and technology with Martin Rauchbauer, Executive Director of the Djerassi Resident Artist Program in Woodside, CA.

Martin Rauchbauer is a senior Austrian diplomat and a tech governance expert. He came to Djerassi after having served for two years as Austria’s first tech ambassador to Silicon Valley, and more than five years as head of Open Austria, and Austrian consul in San Francisco.

Martin shaped the emerging field of tech diplomacy, and was engaged in transatlantic tech diplomacy and digital human rights. He also developed digital humanism as a strategic focus of Austria’s foreign policy.  Martin initiated Open Austria’s Art + Tech Lab and co-founded the European art + tech + policy initiative The Grid. He is a Berggruen Fellow on Global Governance of Technology, and a Diplo Foundation Fellow on Tech Diplomacy. In 2023, he co-founded the Tech Diplomacy Network with the World Economic Forum in San Francisco.
