Steven Hight
In 2017 I realized how many old, rolled up painted canvases that I had stored over the years and I imagined a potential for them, surmising that the built-up paint surface might prove useful. Although there was considerable effort put into working on these paintings originally, because of an inability to conclude them, they were abandoned... but not discarded. I've recently decided to repurpose them by cutting them up into smaller pieces and rearranging those pieces as new abstract images. All of that earlier effort is revealed in these new assemblages, you can can see the labor in the layers of color as they are arranged with renewed invention.
