GLOBS, BLOBS AND BUMPS

I will be showing for the first time a series of sculptures that expand on my exploration of colors and textures.  These mixed media pieces are inspired by Salvation Mountain near the Salton Sea, Noah Purifoy’s installation in the high desert and the rocks and boulders of Joshua Tree and Palm Springs.  In addition I’m channeling Niki de Saint Phalle and Dr. Suess; one of my favorite authors and a neighbor growing up near San Diego.

The paintings in the show colorfully map neighborhoods that I walk or bike through on a daily basis. The compositions and colors are reflective of asphalt, flowers, lawns and driveways I encounter. While abstract, a number of the paintings incorporate architectural features, signage and other non-organic elements.
