Molly Finn
My work explores the intersection of memory, material, and form, transforming everyday remnants into layered, sculptural compositions. Working primarily with mixed media, I build upon panels and canvases, pushing their surfaces beyond the traditional two-dimensional plane. Texture and depth are central to my process, as I layer materials in a way that evokes both preservation and transformation.
In my most recent series, I incorporate scraps of denim left over from my mother’s quilting—a fabric imbued with history, labor, and warmth. Twisting these fragments with jewelry pins, I weave together elements of domestic craft and adornment, reflecting on themes of inheritance, resilience, and care. The interplay of soft, worn textiles with the sharp precision of metal creates a dynamic tension, symbolizing the push and pull of memory and identity.
Through this work, I honor the tactile nature of storytelling, allowing materials to carry forward the past while being reshaped in the present. Each piece is a meditation on the way we hold onto, reconfigure, and ultimately find beauty in the fragments of our personal histories.
