Kaleb Friend - Cabana 101
I am a nature photographer who trained and worked as a physican for over two decades before leaving medicine to pursue conservation work and photography full time. My artistic practice is informed by my background in biology and years of experience working with naturalists in the field. This made me into a patient observer of nature who seeks out moments of quiet beauty and subtle detail.
My photographs use space to convey emotion. Sometimes I explore this idea through minimalism, where negative space underscores the wildness and freedom of a subject. I also feature subjects nestled within their larger habitat, inviting viewers to pause and appreciate the intricate balance of nature. By creating frames that blend the subject with its surroundings, I aim to evoke a sense of tranquility and wonder, offering a visual respite from the constant noise and distractions of modern life.
