Julia Noble

I am a British Artist living and working in San Francisco My aim is to create joyous, uplifting artworks that bring happiness and contentment into the world. I do this by using vibrant colours and lively compositions to create visually captivating pieces. Aimed at transporting and transfixing the viewer, I like to create work that from a distance appears to be a painting but upon closer inspection is not what it seems. I was inspired to become an artist after the tragic death of my sister which motivated me to change career. Creating uplifting, energetic, and optimistic work is my response to this, always looking for the positive. My work is mixed media using a unique process involving handmade paper, machine stitching, water-soluble crayons, and resin. Handmade paper offers distinct qualities - imperfections and irregularities, fine and fragile but at the same time resilient enough to withstand stitch. It makes me think of human qualities Stitch adds extra texture and depth but is also as a reference to my grandmother, a seamstress for Burberry, who taught me a deep appreciation of the skill involved. Colour fascinates me. I use water-soluble crayons as the colours are what they are and variations are created by the placement of one colour next to another. Additionally, because they are water-soluble, the resin enhances the colours making them appear more vibrant and alive. Resin with its glossy and translucent properties also provides an enchanting layer of depth to the artwork. The way the light plays on the surface enhances the mesmerising effect. My inspiration comes from the world around us, places, shapes, forms, and colours. The multiple processes that I use are intended to create works that convey messages of hope, resilience, and optimism, invoking feelings of joy in these challenging times.
