Johnny Botts

Johnny Botts is a San Francisco-based artist who transforms nostalgia and whimsy into vibrant works of art. Once a “rocket scientist” designing equipment for outer space in Silicon Valley, Johnny traded CAD software for paintbrushes in 2013, embracing a full-time art career. His colorful pop art, featuring playful cartoon robots, rockets, and retro sci-fi themes, celebrates imagination and childlike wonder. Johnny’s work has earned recognition far and wide. In 2020, his artwork was featured in the prestigious de Young Museum exhibition, The de Young Open. He was voted “Favorite Artist” at the 2019 Startup Art Fair in San Francisco, a testament to his ability to connect with audiences. He has painted murals at Facebook’s Menlo Park headquarters and San Francisco’s Salesforce Transit Center. His collaborations have been showcased in the New York Times, and Costco featured his original paintings for sale alongside works by Chagall and Warhol. Johnny serves on the board of City Art Gallery in San Francisco and collaborates with other creatives digitally in The CollabLab. With a mission to spread positivity, Johnny infuses his art with uplifting energy, inviting viewers to reconnect with joy and curiosity. His robot characters embody aspirations like “Happy,” “Healthy,” “Wealthy,” and “Wise,” while his rainbow-colored flowers honor LGBTQ+ communities. He often uses reclaimed materials—old windows, floppy disks, or video cassettes—bringing a nostalgic touch and a commitment to sustainability to his work. Johnny’s art is part of corporate collections at Facebook, Atmel, and Capital One, and his artwork continues to inspire smiles and spark conversations. Whether creating murals or reimagining discarded objects, Johnny invites everyone to see the world through a lens of playfulness and possibility.
