“In our current crisis I present my most up to date coalescence of thought, feeling, reference and depth of my craft for the world to engage with.”
My aesthetic has evolved to take on relevant content that addresses and engage power structures. Much of my work has an activist perspective in order to begin identifying and defining emerging moral calculi. In the past year I have reactivated certain early motifs and imagery that I initially took on intuitively, yet which now have come to persist as currency. The penguin, an easy trope that might represent aristocracy, has gained depth in my newest work now as a hapless and abandoned ouroboros reaping what it has sown. The Killer Whale too has reemerged after a significant hiatus now immune from prosecution as a “natural” killer. Finally the polar bear rounds out this current squad, an aggressor, though hapless, and all together they are harbingers. This coming together of new and old motifs of assembled collections of animals, indicates a variety of shared qualifying characteristics; significant among these is their stark color schemes of black and white or in the case of the most recent harbinger/motif; the Twitter bird, blue. They play out narratives as both surrogates and victims, which I generate from cultural memes, news reports, biblical verse, intuition or simply chance splashes of paint on paper.
