Vanessa Koch
This body of work explores the desire to control nature, to understand nature, and to revere nature. I stood where land meets water. I stared into sea foam bubbles. I scratched at the surface of red earth. As I turned to the canvas, I surrendered desire to replicate form. Instead, I attempted to send out the feeling of my observations like a prayer without attachment. I painted large strokes, allowing the paint have the first say. Then I sculpted and emphasized the forms, acknowledging my compulsion for order and inviting it to play a role.
