Robert Howard
These paintings, with the exception of “Strata” and “Ice Core,” come from my continuing interest in the unseen patterns of energy that literally make up everything. (“Solid matter" is basically an illusion created by “fields” of energy). Various forms of energy invariably have waveforms and, like light and sound, the waves overlap, intersect and create patterns. Hence, many of the paintings involve using a simple geometric algorithm to apply many layers of paint.
The technique I use to paint was inspired by a completely unrelated interest in a sub-genre of graffiti tags on sidewalks made, I assume, using squeeze bottles.
