Flower Reliquaries is a new collection of three-dimensional forms combining cut paper and mixed media colors to create art that bridges ritual and design.
Like traditional reliquaries, which often preserve the bones of Saints and other relics, Flower Reliquaries enshrine petals, feathers, and other artifacts of the garden, treating them as sacred.
As a lifetime gardener and flower painter, the garden and its denizens are sacred to me. During my lifetime, stark and dramatic changes in the flora and fauna are evident to me with each passing season. As a painter, I have struggled to make paintings that express the ephemeral power a flower represents, while also creating a permanent record of the world’s unfortunate geophysical reality today. Reliquaries allow me to fully express the joy of the garden now, while also enshrining the moment for future generations.
