Kathryn Arnold
My work includes painting, drawing and installations. My creative process works with two intertwining veins. One is filled with large and small, colorful oils on canvas, some with modular parts. The other vein includes drawings that are black and white mixed media works on paper. Both display the density and layered mark-making that point to my artistic process and content.
In a new series, titled 'after diebenkorn', I wish to engage with a visual understanding of Diebenkorn's geometric constructions deconstructed into their original organic inspiration. I do this through appropriating specific color information relating to a specific work which I then use for the title. The titles convey enough conceptual information to direct towards an understanding of the series. At the same time, the works provide for the viewers a sense of timelessness and infinite space which relates the works in a direct fashion back to Diebenkorn's muse.
