Gideon Cohn
Expressing in words to non-artists what “seeing the world through the eyes of an artist” means is almost an impossible task. It is a constant visual experience that can only be articulated through visual art, in the unique form and style as experienced by the artist. To my recollection, my first acknowledgement of my unique visual experiences was when I was 10 or 11 years of age, growing up on a Kibbutz in the Upper Galilee in Israel, when my elementary school Bible teacher permitted me to scribble and draw during classes as long as I don’t interfere with the class.
I aspired to become an artist, that’s how I saw the world, but the people in my life weren’t receptive to this idea (“you want to become an artist? What’s wrong with you?”) and steered me to other directions; despite of this I managed to continue to feel and see my world through my personal unique artistic prism. In the United States since the early 80’s, my art and painting take a permanent place in my life.
Much of my art evolves around the human figure, as my decades long Artist Statement expresses: “The figure, with Its ever-changing shapes, colors and lines have been a stimulus in my figurative art and became my conduit to the beauty of sensuality.”
The more recent "Quantum Entanglement Series" concept emerged as a consequence of, what seems to be, both in the United States and other countries around the world, a gradual departure from the middle-ground centrism to extremism and radicalism.
My paintings are colorful and utilize a full spectrum of light and line. The many layers you see in my paintings can be peeled away to reveal images and narratives that defy time.
