Dickson Schneider
These pieces are following a body of work that I found while doing a 'performance' at the Torrance Art Museum in 2015. There I began making collages from Naruto Manga books and enlargements of halftones from Vogue magazine, using only a hole punch and the torn paper.
In 2017 I began using gold leaf as social commentary about the new gilded age. Gold leaf comes with a heavy tradition, strict material requirements and beautiful textural possibilities. A big interest for me is how to cross media, so gilding a collage made sense to me. This work shows where I am at so far in the exploration of that idea.
