Cindy Beatteay
My inspiration comes from many sources. I am very material driven and almost obsessive about making things. Equally important I strive to make work that is unique and interesting. This year has been devoted to working within a round format. I made substrates out of resin and I had others made from wood and metal. As I work in the Design Field, the over abundance of squares and right angles is not lost on me. Circles imply wholeness, abundance and are just more fun.
Another component for 2018 was to bring more humor and joy into my work. I usually do that with shapes and colors but this year I added figures for the first time in 20 years. I searched used books for older photos of people doing fun things which I photographed and digitally manipulated to suit my needs. The nostalgia combined with a modern format has an overall uplifting effect.
