Chris Uy
With this body of work I wanted to channel some core emotions into paintings that resonate on a personal and vulnerable place within me, choosing certain subject matter and displaying it in a way that touches upon those deeper meanings. I work primarily with oils on wood panels and I enjoy playing with the contrast of black and white, but recently I've been using a color palette that leans towards muted tones with occasional hits of color in areas, and childlike doodles to bring a playful whimsy to my work. I paint heavy in areas and lighter in others while letting medium and thinner drip down to mix, create texture, and obscure the image.
