Belen Islas

My most recent work was created during the nine months that I was pregnant with my daughter. It was a difficult pregnancy physically and emotionally. During that time, my work helped me to transform those adverse moments into symbolic messages for the viewer to uncover. All my pieces contain a figurative representation of endurance, resiliency and empowerment. For example, I use the monarch butterfly in many of my pieces because that tiny insect has the unimaginable power to fly from Canada to Mexico in the most grueling conditions and arrive to its destination and back. I believe art has the power to create feelings, transform minds and alter consciences.
